Product description
A hand-finished metal pen and brush holder shaped like a ceremonial boat, with five stylised boatmen standing along the gunwale, oars raised mid-stroke. The pierced central cup keeps pens, brushes and styli upright, while the cradle hull catches clips and small desk items. Hand-painted accents along the rim and on the diamond paddle motifs give the piece its festive, folk-art character. Ideal for writing desks, reception counters, libraries, boutique hotel rooms and creative studios.
Design origin
The boatman or ‘nauka’ motif has long appeared in Indian folk metalwork and temple processional art, where rows of oarsmen symbolise safe passage, community effort and prosperity on the waters. Crafts in Rajasthan and the Deccan have long cast small boat forms for ritual and decorative use. This design reinterprets that procession as a desk piece, letting a flotilla of oarsmen keep watch over the day’s writing.
