Product description
Two bearers in pleated dhotis carry a domed palki on a long pole, its canopy woven from fine Dhokra wire-work in scrolls, arches and lattice. The whole piece is cast by the ancient lost-wax method, so every thread of wax becomes a line of brass and no two castings are identical. A storytelling centrepiece for coffee tables, sideboards, wedding gifting and heritage-themed hotels.
Design origin
Dhokra is one of the oldest metal-casting traditions in the world — over 4,000 years old — still practised by tribal artisans of Chhattisgarh, Odisha and West Bengal. The palki, or doli, carried the bride from her parents’ home to her new one, and remains a beloved symbol of Indian weddings and journeys.
