Product description
A charming handcrafted low table, its top set with nine hand-painted ceramic tiles arranged in a vibrant folk-art grid of flowers, vines and geometric medallions. The richly stained mango-wood frame and turned baluster legs give it the proportions of a traditional Indian chowki, while the multicolour tile surface brings the joy of a hand-painted canvas to a functional piece. Made to order, it works beautifully as a coffee table, a bedside stand, a footrest companion or a display plinth for a brass lamp or bust. Ideal for boutique hotels, heritage homestays, restaurants, cafes and lived-in living rooms.
Design origin
Inspired by India’s long tradition of painted tile work — from the blue-and-white churches of Goa to the floral tile façades of Rajasthan and Gujarat — and by the everyday chowkis used in homes and courtyards. The nine-tile grid echoes the rangrez or dyer’s palette, where colours are mixed in small wells; here each tile becomes its own colour-field of marigolds, vines and rosettes, turning a functional low table into a piece of folk-art floor décor.
