Product description
A hand-turned side table in solid pale mango wood, shaped as two soft drums stacked with a narrow turned waist between them. The curved surfaces are built from small rectangular wood blocks joined edge-to-edge, giving the table a quiet parquet texture that catches the light as you walk around it. Left in a natural matte finish, it celebrates the grain and tonal variation of the timber rather than hiding it. Ideal beside a lounge chair, at the end of a sofa, in a bedroom corner or as a pair flanking a console in hotels, resorts and boutique spaces.
Design origin
The silhouette borrows from the Indian turned-stave tradition seen in carved wooden vessels, grain measures and small tables from regions such as Saharanpur and Rajasthan, where a lathe and short off-cuts are turned into useful, sculptural objects. Stave-and-block construction turns what would be scrap into a stable drum form, a quiet echo of the joinery used in larger coopered vessels. The pale, unstained mango lets the wood's natural figuring do the talking, in keeping with the contemporary Indian craft sensibility of letting material lead form.
